March 26, 2013KANSAS CITY, Mo.? - Senior forward Ella Ellis added another line to his list of accolades on Tuesday when he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 13 Second Team. A second-team selection in 2012, Ellis is the first Army player to be named NABC All-District in consecutive years since Kevin Houston earned the honor in 1986 and 1987.
Ellis guided the Black Knights to a 16-15 record, the program's first winning season in 28 years. Army won a program record eight Patriot League games and advanced to the semifinals of the conference tournament for the fourth time in seven years.
He ranked second in the Patriot League in scoring at 17.7 points per game and was a unanimous selection to the All-Patriot League First Team. He was the first Army player since Mark Lueking in 1994-96 to make back-to-back appearances on the Patriot League's top all-star squad. Ellis was also one of the top three-point shooters in the Patriot League, ranking second in triples per game (2.3) and fifth in three-point shooting percentage (.419).
The Houston native put his name in the Black Knight record book at the game, season and career levels. He became the first player since 1995-96 to post back-to-back 30-point games, and his four 30-point efforts during the season were the most since that same 1995-96 season. Ellis scored 548 points, which ranked 10th on the Army season list and made him the just the sixth Black Knight to score 500-or-more points in at least two seasons. He buried 72 three-pointers, the seventh best season total in West Point history, while his 178 free throws ranked third on the Black Knights' season ledger.
Having played in an Academy record 120 consecutive games, Ellis completed his West Point career fifth on Army's all-time scoring list with 1,585 points. He reached that same spot on the Black Knights' career three-point list with 193 triples. Ellis also reached Army's all-time top 10 in free throws (4th, 434), free throw percentage (7th, 81.6) and blocked shots (6th, 45). He is the only player in Army history to score at least 1,500 points, grab 450 rebounds (466), hand out 150 assists (161) and block 40 shots.
The NABC District 13 is comprised of 23 schools representing the Ivy League, the Patriot League and the Great West Conference.
