Wide Receiver discusses Army offer
Just last week, the Army Black Knight were able to secure the verbal commitment from 6-foot-4, 198 pound wide receiver Luke Peterman out of Austin (Tx.) Vandegrift High School.
Even with Peterman's pledge, the need at each of the skilled positions such as wide receiver continues to be a priority surrounding Army's 2014 recruiting class.
One prospect on the radar is another receiver, who also from Texas (Addison) and that is Jalen Sharp out of Greenhill School.
The two-star prospect, who is presently holding offers from Army and James Madison, measures in at 6-foot-2, 170 pounds.
Although Sharp is being recruited primarily as a receiver, he also doubles at corner for Greenhill and could project on the defensive side of the ball at the next level.
"Yes, right now, schools are recruiting me as a receiver," shared Sharp, who talked about what has been unfolding with him and the Black Knights.
"Army offered me my junior year ... around May of last year," he admitted. "I keep in contact with Coach Spencer [Todd] once a week. We talk about what I have going on, what teams I've played, what's going down ... we talk back and forth. I really thinking about about Army and of course, West Point is a big jump and commitment. Right now it's just giving it a lot of thought, I know it's a great offer, but right now I just have mild interest ... but that can change."
Of course for the Army coaching staff, getting the Texas native on campus could be part of Sharp seeing the program and the school from a different perspective.
"I plan on visiting [West Point] sometime later on, but I haven't set that up yet," declared Sharp, who also put things in perspective regarding his other offer.
"My interest in James Madison is low, because I don't keep in contact with the recruiter there, like other coaches that I have talked to."
So, what are the qualities that Sharp is looking for when making his college decision? "A school that has a great campus, good student/teacher ratio, somewhere I know that I would be able to fit in and some place located around a city," added the two-way player, who also participates in track & field at Greenhill. His events include the 100M, 200M, 4x100m and long jump, with a personal best of 10.8 in the 100M.
In addition to Army and James Madison, Sharp is hearing from Temple, Navy, New Mexico and Nevada.
