GBK Recruiting Update: RB, Myles Smith

Myles Smith 5-foot-9, 195 pound running back out of Chandler (Ariz.) Chandler High School is still searching for his first college offer, but that may be just a matter of time for shifty running back.

I'm just practicing with the track team, but not competing for the track team ... just looking to get faster and better," says Smith relative to his preparation for upcoming camps, combines and the 2012 football campaign.

At Chandler Basha High School, Smith compiled 600 yards rushing, 4 touchdowns along with 125 receiving yards. Presently Smith is now attending Chandler High School and is hoping to have a breakout senior season.

So what was the purpose of Smith's change of schools?

"I transferred because of their IBS (International Baccalaureate System) which I wanted to graduate with," he explains. "It's basically it's high honors academically .... like AP classes and you get college for them. So I wanted to have that under my belt. Both of my parents are teachers and they thought it would be a good fit and look good on my resume."

As such, Smith has some very impressive schools showing him football interest, but who also lineup with his academic goals. "I'm hearing from colleges like Army (West Point), Stanford, Yale and others," says Smith, who maintains a 3.4 GPA, who has another academy showing him strong interest.

"I've gotten letters from Navy starting my sophomore and then my junior year, along with about a month ago," he adds. "Right now I'm hearing the most from Navy, but Army has also sent me letters and I hope to hear more from them."

Smith's physical stature is comparable to that of former Rutgers great and current Baltimore Raven running back Ray Rice. So it's no surprise that Smith was quick to point to what he views as the similarities in styles.

"I compare myself to a Ray Rice type of running back," he declares. "I'm a stocky running back, with good exceleration, runs pretty hard through the holes and I can catch it out of the backfield pretty well. I can catch it out of the backfield pretty well and I handle kick returns as well."

When comes to off-season combines, Smith says he has begun the camp tours. "This Saturday (4/21) I went to the National Underclassmen Combine and the ASU (Arizona State) prospect camp in June," he confirms. "That's right after our school's football team camp. Then I'm going to Arizona's prospect camp ... those are the three camps that I'm going to so far."
