Army Announces 2013-14 Schedule

WEST POINT, N.Y. - A national television appearance versus Air Force tips off the Army men's basketball team's 2013-14 schedule announced Friday afternoon. For the third consecutive season, the Black Knights will begin the season versus the Falcons at the All-Military Classic presented by USAA. This year's event will be played at VMI's Cameron Hall.

Army and Air Force will square off Friday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by ESPNU. Saturday's consolation game that will pit the Black Knights or Falcons versus either the Keydets or The Citadel will tip-off at 6 p.m. with the championship game to follow at 8:30 p.m. Both of Saturday's contests will be streamed live on ESPN3.

The Black Knights make their home debut on Friday, Nov. 15 against NJIT. It is the first of five non-conference games at Christl Arena. Army will also welcome Delaware (Nov. 19), Houston Baptist (Nov. 30), St. Francis (N.Y.) (Dec. 7) and the U.S. Coast Guard Academy (Dec. 30).

Following the season-opening tournament, Army is slated for four non-conference road games. The Black Knights play at Notre Dame (Nov. 24), Columbia (Dec. 4), Maine (Dec. 13) and Rutgers (Dec. 22).

"We think we have a very challenging non-league schedule that will prepare us for the rigors of Patriot League play," head coach Zach Spiker said. "Every time we step on the floor we will have to play very good basketball to be successful. As coaches and players, we want to challenge ourselves against the best competition. We know iron sharpens iron, and this year's schedule certainly gives us that opportunity."

With the addition of Boston University and Loyola (Md.), the Patriot League schedule has expanded from 14 games to 18 games. Each team will play a home-and-away round robin beginning Thursday, Jan. 2. Army begins its conference slate at Lafayette. The Black Knights play their first home Patriot League game on Sunday, Jan. 5 versus Loyola.

The first half of the league schedule continues with road games at Lehigh (Jan. 8) and Navy (Jan. 11) before a two-game homestand opposite Holy Cross (Jan. 15) and Bucknell (Jan. 19). Alternating road and home games at Colgate (Jan. 22), versus American (Jan. 25) and at Boston University (Jan. 29) round out the initial trip through the Patriot League.

A trip to Loyola (Feb. 1) starts the final leg of the schedule. After a home game against Lehigh on Feb. 5, the Black Knights will host the annual "Star Game" with arch-rival Navy on Feb. 8. Road games versus Holy Cross (Feb. 12) and Bucknell (Feb. 15) preface a season-ending stretch of three out of four contests at Christl Arena. Army hosts Colgate on Feb. 19 before traveling to American on Feb. 22. The regular season closes with home games against Boston University (Feb. 26) and Lafayette (Mar. 1).

The Patriot League Tournament will include all 10 teams and remain at the home site of the higher seed. The first round will feature the No. 10 seed playing at the No. 7 seed and the No. 9 seed at the No. 8 seed. The two winners will advance to face the No. 2 and No. 1 teams, respectively, in the quarterfinals. The No. 3 and No. 4 squads will also host quarterfinal games against the No. 6 and No. 5 teams.
