Despite mistakenly being listed by Rivals as a tight-end, Chris Frey lays it down at Temescal CanyonHigh School as both an OLB/DE and when it comes to Army, he has been recruited me as a defensive end.

In 2106, the 6-foot-5, 225 pounder was productive at both spots, as he compiled an impressive 91 total tackles, 12 tackle for loss, 8.5 sacks, 8 pass defended, 4 forced fumbles, 2 blocked punts, 1 blocked field goal, and one fumble recovery for a touchdown.

So, when he made his way on campus this past Friday to take in the ‘Knights On The Hudson’ BBQ, it was clear to Frey that he wanted to become a Black Knight.

“I notified them last night at dinner at Coach [Jeff] Monken’s house and I committed to Coach Monken and Coach [Sean] Saturnio,” Frey explained. “Coach Saturnio was the coach that has been in close contact with me, as he is the California recruiter.”

Army represented Frey’s only offer, although was receiving strong interest from Boise State, Washington State, SDSU, University of Montana

But the 225 pounder’s pledge to the Black Knights had less to do with Army being his only offer and more to do with attending West Point and playing football on the banks of the Hudson River was an opportunity that he did not want to pass up.

Even if other programs finally get it, as Army obviously has, Frey said that his attention is now solely on the Black Knights and his future at West Point.

“My commitment is solid! Loyalty is everything and I'm 100% committed to West Point,” declared Frey.

“The deciding factor was the feeling of home,” he stated. “This place was unreal, and the support system as a student athlete was unreal.”

“Yes it was my first Visit to West Point. The feeling of home stuck with me. The coaches and staff that were there made me feel like I belonged there and they'd look after me (my mother was very happy to know I'd be safe) like I was there own. Coming from Southern California and the high desert you don't see the amount of green that you see at West Point, and it's breath taking. Also knowing that when my football carrier ends and I hang up the cleats, I'd be able to be apart of an even bigger team and help defend the country I so deeply love.”

Another point of reference for Frey was Army’s nationally (4th) ranked defense and the 3-4 system, that he feels matches his style of play.

“As a defensive end I love there pin your ears back and get after the ball mentality,” he stated. “Almost like Gorilla Warfare. I love the aggressiveness the Army defense displayed last season and I look forward to being apart of keeping there defense like that.”

Stay tuned as GoBlackKnights.com will have the breakdown of Frey’s commitment and the impact his pledge will have on this 2018 recruiting class, so keep it right here as we have you covered with all the latest.
