It was just last week that we reported that defensive tackle prospect Hunter Richard was ‘blown-away’ relative to his Army West Point

Well just yesterday, the 6-foot-3, 270 pound defensive tackle out of Edmond (OK) Edmond North High School verbally committed to the Black Knights’ 2018 recruiting class.

That’s the good news, but what makes it even better is that the class currently has pledges from three defensive tackles. One of course is Richard, then highly regarded/recruited 3-star prospect Ryan Bryce and rounding out the trio is Timothy Kater.

“Coach Christian-Young is who I committed to and I got on the phone yesterday evening and I told him I was ready to pull the trigger and make it official,” Richard told GoBlackKnights.com in this exclusive interview.

“After my visit, I had pretty much made up my mind and knew that's where I wanted to go. Me and Coach Christian-Young had a phone call scheduled for yesterday, and that's when I decided I'd make it official. It started off talking about recruitment and general, and I just decided to break the ice and tell him I was ready to pull the trigger and commit. We were fired up and ready to get things started. Then we discussed future steps like the admissions process.”

So what were the determining factors in Richard making his decision to become a Black Knight and attend the academy?

“It's big time football with the best education one can get,” stated the future Black Knight. “I love the coaches and the program. But most importantly, I feel like that's where I was meant to be.”

With that, Richard pointed out that he can now focus on his senior football season, knowing that his college decision has been made.

“It feels great,” he stated relative to putting recruiting in his rearview mirror. “My team has built a lot of momentum during the spring and we're looking to keep that going through the summer to win some ball games in the fall.”

The defensive tackle commit readily admitted that he had already been in contact with several members of the 2018 recruiting class.

“I definitely have ... they're a great group of guys and I can't wait to get in the field with them,” shared the student-athlete who has 29 ACT and and 3.7 GPA and who is scheduled to enter the program as a direct admit.

"My commitment is solid, but I'll definitely get back on campus because I love it up there."

GBK COMMENTS:

Richard is a very physical and tough player, who will be a nose guard in Army’s 3-4 defense. He will be a solid addition upon his arrival next summer.

Stay tuned as GoBlackKnights.com will have the breakdown of Richard’s commitment and the impact his pledge will have on this 2018 recruiting class, so keep it right here as we have you covered with all the latest.
