The Army Black Knights’ 2018 received an immediate boost on Thursday, with the commitment of Slidell (LA) Northshore High School cornerback Khalil Fleming, who is very athletic, but is not afraid to lower the boom on opposing receivers and running backs.

The 6-foot-0, 165 pounder’s extended his verbal pledge to fullback coach Mike Viti, who has been handling his recruiting throughout.

“I committed two nights ago on April 19th,” shared Fleming, who has yet to make a visit to the West Point campus, but was able to commit to Viti in person. “ told it to Coach Viti when he came over for an in-home visit and he was all excited.”

It was only back on March 30th that the defender received his offer from Army, which actually came from head coach Jeff Monken.

But Fleming readily admitted that it has been the consistency and budding relationship with Viti that has lead the way to his becoming the 2nd member of the Black Knights’ 2018 recruiting class.

“Coach Viti was talking about how West Point basically guides you into your career choice and even pays for you to go to medical school, etc. ... which really caught my interest,” explained Fleming. “Then we talked a little more about football and I told him that I am 100% sure when I say this. I want to commit to Army West Point this moment. And we got excited and my mom started crying. It was a real loving and dream come true moment.”

So what were the deciding factors that lead the cornerback to say yes to Army West Point?

“Well, of course the big-time D1 football, but Coach Viti talked a lot more about the school more than football which really caught my attention and how everyone at West Point is part of the brotherhood and had each other's backs,” he said. “Trust is there, and that's real big-time to me.”

How Do You Spell Relieve?

“I feel like a ginormous weight is lifted off of my shoulders and I am extremely excited about my senior season, and working for a great season,” declared Fleming, when discussing how he feels knowing that his college decision has been made and that he can now focus on his senior high school campaign.

“I am a solid commitment to Army ... #Family,” bellowed out the student-athlete, who maintains a 3.68 GPA and who feels that he will enter the academy as a direct admit.

Stay tuned as GoBlackKnights.com will have the breakdown of Fleming’s commitment and the impact his pledge will have on this 2018 recruiting class, so keep it right here as we have you covered with all the latest.
