The 2017 recruiting class just got a huge boost with the commitment of TE John Harrar
The 2017 recruiting class just got a huge boost with the commitment of TE John Harrar

Commit Fit: Army fans probably know this more than most college football fans around the country and that sometimes it’s not always the highest-rated prospects that fit the best with the school of their choice.

GoBlackKnights.com will select five players that have committed to Army, irregardless of position, and who we think fits seamlessly into the Black Knights’ schemes (Upcoming Commit Fit Feature).

We mentioned in our initial article on 6-foot-8, 235 pounder John Harrar, that has “IT”.

Harrar is athletic, plays hard and has unreal potential. From where we sit, he could be an NFL offensive tackle someday.

How athletic is this versatile player? He plays the four [power forward] for his high school, where he is averaging 20 [pts] and 10 [rebounds]. So much that his basketball highlights are just as exciting as those from the gridiron.

Skill-set sound familiar? Yes, Alejandro Villanueva brought those same qualities to the table and had them refined during his tenure wearing the Black & Gold of Army, which are now on display as the starting offensive tackle with Pittsburgh Steelers.

Despite his size and position, Harrar is probably one of the most athletic and talented, versatile players to pledge to head coach Jeff Monken during his 3-year tenure as Black Knights’ mentor.

Well on Sunday, the prospect out of Wallingford (PA) Strath Haven High School announced that he will bringing his talents to West Point, New York as he will be joining the Army Black Knights’ 2017 recruiting class.

“I committed to Coach [John] Loose tonight,” Harrar shared with GBK during our Sunday evening conversation. “I talked with him before the week about how I like West Point a lot and so I am sure he was expecting a call. He was really excited and fired up.”

Harrar also indicated that he was in contact with Monken following his decision. “He texted me a quick message ... congratulating me and saying how excited he was,” added the tight-end, who offered this two-word point when it came to how he was feeling about his college choice/decision. “Definitely excited.”

Harrar admitted that it was surrounding at West Point, along with his fellow 2017 teammates that were the deciding factors in his decision. “The people that I will be surrounding myself with for the years to come and all the kids I met on my official visit were awesome to be around,” stated the 1st Team All-League performer, whose first stop will be the USMAPS.
