Highsmith commits to Army

It was just two weeks ago that Dario Highsmith narrowed his college choices down to UConn and Army, as reported by UConnReport.com
But on Friday, after taking an unofficial visit to West Point on Thursday the 5-foot-10, 190 QB prospect opted to step away from the preferred walk-on opportunity with the Huskies and said yes to the Black Knights, as he joins the 2015 recruiting class.

When the dust settle after his visit, Highsmith's decision wasn't too difficult.
"I committed on Friday after an official visit on Thursday," confirmed Highsmith, who is listed by Rivals as an athlete, but is being projected at QB by the Army staff.
"Army was guaranteed and made it a lot easier on my family. Free is always a choice that's hard to turn down."
Of course, during his visit, the product of Middletown (CT) Middletown High School, had the opportunity to listen to what the coaching staff had to say about his future as a Black Knight, especially the thoughts of head coach Jeff Monken.
"Yeah, I talked to all of the coaches," added Highsmith. "I did speak to Coach Monken and he just discussed how I could be a difference maker on the team and they would love for me to be a part of their family. The facilities really stood out and the love that all of the coaches showed me."
It appears that Highsmith will be entering the academy via the United States Military Academy [USMAPS], and "option" that he openly embraces.
"I could squeeze in direct, but I am going prep to get used to the whole "Army" thing, the strict rules and trainings," he explained. "Also to try and learn their offense better ... and I am extremely decided about my decision."
