Rivals 2-star LB Ben Roth has committed to become an Army Black Knight

Receiving the commitment from Rivals 2-star linebacker Benjamin Roth, could open the flood gates to a very impressive corp of inside and outside backers who the Army Black Knights have offered and who also appear very close to following Roth’s pledge to West Point.

In our article “Who’s Ready To Commit To The Black Knights?” from last week, there was Rivals 3-star Isaiah Moore and 2-star OLB, Markens Pierre, as well as another 2-star performer in Hunter Bucknam.

But for now, this is about young Mr. Roth, who also represents the Black Knights first commitment to the 2017 Recruiting Class.

The Sanford (FL) Seminole High School product did not take long in his decision, once he made his way on campus two-days ago for his unofficial visit.

I came up for a visit yesterday and fell in love with campus,” he told GoBlackKnights.com on Wednesday of his recent visit. I was on campus for a visit yesterday with Coach [Daryl] Dixon and Coach [Jansen] Petagna.

‘THE DECISION’

“I called them around 5pm today and I first talked to Coach Dixon to let him know I wanted to become a Black Knight and he told me to call Coach [Jeff] Monken to tell him about my commitment,” said the still excited 6-foot-1, 210 pound linebacker.

Coach Dixon called Coach Monken right after I told him I wanted to commit, so when I called Coach Monken he knew I had something to tell him. When I told him I wanted to become a Black Knight and he was excited and wanted to welcome me to the team.

‘THE RIGHT FIT’

Although Army West Point is Roth’s only offer to date, he has been receiving interest from University of Penn, Columbia and Cornell. However, the Florida prospect stated that he knew exactly what his prerequisites were when selecting a college and the New York based academy is a perfect match.

“When I started my recruiting process I wanted to find a balance between a top academic education and a great football program,” he stated. “As soon as I got on campus I knew that Army could provide both. When touring both the facilities and campus, I got to meet and talk to some of the staff and it reinforced the idea that they are trying to build the best leaders to serve our country. I knew that West Point was special, but after my visit I knew that it was the place for me.”

“I have no doubt in my mind that Army is where I want to be,” shared Roth, confirming that his pledge is solid.

The very active/athletic linebacker will enter the program as an inside linebacker in the same mode as current captain, Andrew King. At Seminole, he was the team MVP as a junior, with a team full of D1 prospects.

Stay tuned as GoBlackKnights.com will have the breakdown of Roth’s commitment and the impact his pledge will have on this 2017 recruiting class, so keep it right here as we have you covered with all the latest.
