You can now add Army to the list of offers that safety Robert Black presently holds and that include Ball State, Central Michigan, Samford, Citadel and Mercer.

“I was offered by Army last night,” Black told GoBlackKnights.com on Tuesday.

The prospect's recruiting is being handle by Black Knights’ safety coach, John Loose. According to Black, once he hit the Army West Point recruiting radar, the offer came relatively quickly.

“It moved pretty quickly,” said Black, who is out of Covington (GA) Newton High School. “I was offered by the Citadel first, then I received my results and got a 24 on my ACT. That is when Coach Loose and I started communicating."

“Coach Loose and I began by talking about the school and the advantages Army offers their student-athletes. Specifically about the opportunities and networking I would be offered once graduating. Leading into the offer Coach Loose was telling me how my grades were impressive and how they fit the criteria of what they look for in a student-athlete. In addition, he went ahead and made it clear they were offering and that I was being offered as a safety and that I would fit well in there aggressive style of defense.”

As he reflected on his initial reaction to the Army offer, Black let out a laugh in his conversation with GBK, as recalled how ‘giggly’ he was at that time and space.

“Like when he offered me, I just started smiling and laughing and started making my way upstairs to tell my parents,” the 6-foot-0, 185 pound safety prospect shared. “I let him know that I was very appreciative too.”

Black will not be attending Army’s Junior Day on Saturday, but did indicate that there is a possibility that he will be on campus this summer for one of the Black Knights’ one-day summer football camps.

So far this spring, he has visited Wake Forest, Duke, Samford and Georgia Southern. In addition, he competed in the Rivals Camp Series back on April 2nd in Atlanta, Georgia.

During his junior season (2015), he registered 58 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, along with 8 pass breakups from his strong safety position.

Black closed out his chat by confirming his level of interest in the Black Knights.

“I am extremely interested and not only into the program, but everything Army West Point has to offer,” he acknowledged.

GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow Black’s spring & summer football activity, along with the progression of his recruiting throughout his senior campaign, so keep it right here.
