Rivals 2-star OL Caden Williams is all smiles after committing to Army head coach, Jeff Monken
Rivals 2-star OL Caden Williams is all smiles after committing to Army head coach, Jeff Monken

Come on, help me out here. What are some of the adjectives and attributes that go along with a top notch offensive lineman?

Run Block - How well he engages the defender and holds his block for the run play

Pass Block - How well he holds his block when protecting the quarterback

Impact Blocking - The ability to pancake [knock the defender down] when block in space or in the open field

Of course there are things like toughness, being relentless, etc.

Well, guess what? The Black Knights have just picked up such an offensive lineman in Caden Williams, who is another solid pick-up for the Army coaching staff and we are sure that have been waiting for this moment.

We surely aren’t suggesting that Williams’ decision was a long time coming, because as we noted in our last featured article on the Rivals 2-star offensive lineman ... in that he was sincerely exercising diligence surrounding his recruiting.

But Williams had become a priority recruiting for Army’s 2017 recruiting class and we are sure that he knew that coming into his official visit weekend (1/13) to Army West Point

Once he reached his decision, and after him informed the coaching staff ... he connected with GoBlackKnights.com to confirm his commitment, but asked that we wait for his announcement on social media before we did so via GBK/Rivals.

“Yes sir, I'll announce it then at like 5:55 central time, so you can announce it at 6 my time or 7pm yours.” requested the respectful offensive lineman, who had this to say about his pledge.

“I notified them on Sunday morning when I met with Coach [Jeff] Monken,” offered up 6-foot-5, 275 pounder, who had been joined on his official visit to West Point this past weekend by his parents joined me, Chris and Emily Williams.

“We talked about how great the official visit was and how I loved it at West Point and I could see myself playing there. Then I told him that I wanted to play for him.”

“He was super excited and stood up right away and congratulated me,” added Williams.

For the Franklin (TN) product, his faith in what Jeff Monken is building at Army is one of the major factors that lured him to say that West Point will be his college home ... but it was more than that.

“I really believe in coach Monken and his coaching staff,” acknowledged Williams. “What they are doing with the Army football program is incredible and I can tell that it is only going to get better. I loved the players on the team and the other recruits that I was with. My dream is to be a doctor one day and I know that an education/degree from West Point will help me tremendously. The facilities are top-notch and I'm looking forward to putting in work to better myself as a person and football player.”

As I initially mentioned, Williams has the true offensive lineman temperament, but also knows that the Army offense that finished the season strong, along with being ranked 2nd in the nation in rushing is a fit for his style of play.

“In high school we ran a very similar offense to them, so I believe that my playing abilities and strengths fit right into their offensive scheme,” shared the student-athlete, who finished last semester with a 4.583 and will be a direct admit.

Williams has great size, plays with leverage and attacks off the ball. As a direct admit, we believe that he could add immediate depth and get reps during the 2017 campaign.

Stay tuned as GoBlackKnights.com will have the breakdown of Williams’ commitment and the impact his pledge will have on this 2017 recruiting class, so keep it right here as we have you covered with all the latest.
