For 6-foot-2, 180-pound wide receiver Jessie Campbell, his verbal pledge to the Army Black Knights will lead him to one of the most prestigious colleges in the nation and that is the United States Military Academy at West Point.

“Yes, I have verbally committed to Army West Point,” Campbell told GoBlackKnights.com. “I notified the staff that I was committing to Army last week. Coach (Sean) Saturnio and Coach (Keith) Gaither have been handling my recruitment and that’s who I committed too.”

“It was a great conversation,” shared the wide receiver, who holds offers from Idaho, Morgan State, Air Force, William & Mary, Southern Utah, New Mexico, and Holy Cross. “We built an unbreakable connection and bond that’s going to make us closer than ever. We can’t wait to get to work and he’s glad I am a Black Knight. They are my family and that’s what I told him. I’m 100 percent committed and all in.”

In addition to Gaither and Saturnio ... Campbell indicated that he has also been in communication with Army Head Coach, Jeff Monken.

“We built an unbreakable connection and bond that’s going to make us closer than ever. We can’t wait to get to work and he’s glad I am a Black Knight."

“Coach Monken called me instantly when it (commitment) happened,” explained the product of Chula Vista (CA) Mater Dei High School. “He’s super excited and so am I. He can’t wait to see me make big plays in Michie Stadium.”

“I have taken a virtual visit and a couple of months back and fell in love with it. I love their weight room and the stadium is mind-blowing. All of the halls where the team eats are amazing and I can’t wait to be a part of it.

DECIDING FACTORS

Beyond the aforementioned, Campbell broke it down when it came to what drove him to become a Black Knight and part of the 2021 recruiting class.

“I’ve built a special relationship with the staff,” he declared. “And after talking to some of the players they are truly a brotherhood.”

Campbell is also elated that he will be a direct admit and is optimistic that he can make his presence felt sooner than later.

“I plan to start and make an immediate impact as a freshman,” said the student-athlete who current holds a 3.7 GPA and during his junior season had 22 receptions, 407 receiving yards and 9 touchdowns.

He has already bonded with the team, as embraced the Black Knights’ 42-0 win over Middle Tennessee State last Saturday.

“Yes I saw my teammates win last week,” shared Campbell. “It was an overall good team effort and they worked hard all week long to put on a show.”
