Army along with several other programs have Malik Scott on their recruiting radar, according to the 6-foot-3, 175 pound safety and cornerback prospect out of Bel Air (MD) John Carroll High School.

“Right now I have Syracuse Air Force and now Army,” said Scott, when discussing his current offers. “Also lots of interest like Wake Forest, Coastal Carolina, NC State and others.”

When speaking with GoBlackKnights.com surrounding his recruiting by Army West Point, Scott had this update to share.

“Matt Hachmann the outside linebacker coach is recruiting me and no it wasn’t a surprise (offer) ... I’ve been talking with Army for a couple of months, so i knew it was coming eventually,” explained the 34th ranked player out of the state of Maryland.

“So, I was invited to their spring game last Friday and I had a great time on campus. I held a lot of great conversations with the coaches, and my family and I had a great time.”

“Tuesday night I got the usual weekly phone call from Coach Hachmann about how I’ve been and how I enjoyed the visit. Then he asked me how my day was going, i told him it was going good. Then he said well i can make it better with this great news, and he offered me.

UNOFFICIAL VISIT TO ARMY WEST POINT

Like most recruits who make their first journey to Army West Point, Scott found himself pleasantly surprised and impressed with the various platforms surrounding the football program, and the institution itself.

“Exceeded,” was Scott’s initial comment when asked about how he measured his visit. “I was expecting West Point to be like a typical military base, but it was a beautiful historic campus overall and the football program was very welcoming. They took me upstairs to Coach Monken’s office right away.”

“I just loved the excitement and the culture surrounding Army football and the entire program. I feel like the brotherhood is deeper than just football. As far as facilities, the entire football building including the weight room is amazing. Michie Stadium, and the indoor facility are also really cool. Lastly, Trophy Point is beautiful and a highlight of the West Point Campus.

According to Scott, one of the highlights was his conversation with Head Coach Jeff Monken.

“He [Monken] was just saying how he was excited to finally my family and i in person and that I would be a great edition to the Black Knight defense,” declared Scott. “He also had a lot of great things to say about West Point football.”

“Army is definitely a competitive team when it comes to my recruitment. I feel like their defense would be a great fit. I remember being at 2018 Army-Navy game and I love how the safeties played that game.”

THE COLLEGE FIT

When it comes to ideal fit at the next level, Scott has his check list established.

“Well first and foremost I want to make sure I’m getting a great education,” he stated. “I’m a 3.9 GPA student so academics mean a lot to me. But on the football side of things ... just a coaching staff that I can grow with and benefit from and of course a winning football program.”

GoBlackKnights.com will continue to follow Scott’s recruiting throughout the spring and his upcoming senior football campaign, so keep it right here.
