As Army moves deeper into summer practice mode, the recruiting cycle shifts to a slower 3rd or 4th gear ... obviously depending on the recruit. In the case of defensive end prospect Taylor Driggers and the Black Knights, the Brantley (AL.) Brantley High School product remains a priority on the staff's 2013 recruiting class radar.

Needless to say, adding 3 perhaps 4 quality defensive ends to the class would be ideal. The Black Knights have already received the verbal pledge from Andrew McLean, thus getting someone of Driggers caliber, especially if early on, would make for a nice duo of "book-ends" for Army.

Of course, there is competition for his talents, as the prospect out of Brantley (AL.) Brantley High School currently holds offers from Memphis, Troy, Georgia State, along with Army

Troy - "I've visited Troy and they're about 30 minutes from my house. I live pretty much in Troy, so I get up to Troy all the time."

Georgia State - "I've taken a visit to Georgia State and that was in the summer. It was at a football camp and I did a tour afterwards, along with some one on one time with the coaches there."

But for Army and Memphis, I will take official visits there because it's a good distance there.

Memphis - "The last time I talked to Memphis was probably about three weeks ago. The biggest thing with Memphis is they want to get me up there where they think the campus and the environment will sell itself. I'm definitely excited about getting up to Memphis. They're headed to the Big East in 2013 and they will have some upgrades of their facilities, so it should be a cool visit."

Army - "I have spoken to Coach Holmes (Clarence) of Army and an official visit is being planned. I like Army. They are a hard nose football team and I'm a hard nose player, so I would fit in well there. It's West Point, which is an honor to be considered there. You know the process just to get into West Point is crazy."

In addition to the aforementioned schools, Driggers indicated that there are a few others that could be in the mix as well.

"I'm also hearing from the University of Alabama-Birmingham ... they are showing a lot of interest, along with Tulane, University of Auburn and I'm still talking to them," he adds.

As well as his recruiting is going, Driggers is just as optimistic about the prospects of his 2012 senior campaign, for a team that is coming off a solid 9-2 last year.

"We look really good," says an enthusiastic Driggers. "We have a new offense in this year and the defense is popping man. We are strong on the defensive line, good linebacking core ... we look really good."

"We are always a playoff team and I don't think we've not made the playoffs in 30 years. But really, we will definitely have a chance to go deep into the playoffs. We won it all ... the state championship in 2009 and Brantley is a small school, but we are always in the mix and this year we will have a good title shot."
