A.J. Howard was recruited out of Toccoa, Georgia in 2017 and played a season at USMAPS before entering West Point in 2018. He did not see any action in his plebe season, and made his college debut in the opening game against Rice in 2019. He appeared in 6 games in his yearling year and carried the ball two times for 28 yards.

Howard has played in all 9 games this season with 160 snaps. He has carried the ball 8 times for a net total of 38 yards. He has also contributed 3 tackles as a member of special teams. His PFF rating for the season is 66.0 and he had his highest rating of the season against Georgia Southern with a 79.7.
