Why would we focus our pre-season attention on wide receiver Isaiah Alston when he only played in four games during his 2020 freshman campaign, where he only had just two receptions for 47 yards, with a long of 29 yards?

Simply put, the 6-foot-4, 200 pound local product out of Carteret, New Jersey demonstrated tremendous upside in his abbreviated appearance last season.

Anyone who followed the Black Knights’ 2020 season, especially the early portion of the campaign witnessed one of the most athletic receivers to wear the Black & Gold, and that’s current sophomore Isaiah Alston.

However, his freshman season was an abbreviated one, as injuries forced him out of the line-up during the latter stages of 2020. That was the bad news.

The good news coming out of Army’s training camp is that Alston has improved from last year. Much more well rounded wide receiver, who now has an overall understanding of the offense, embracing the blocking aspect, seeing defenses, etc.

“People forget that he played very little football,” shared OC Brent Davis in his discussion with GBK Publisher Charles Grevious during last week’s Media Day. “Very little … he just happen to make plays, when he did get to play. Then he was really available in the spring, so he’s still developing and we are very excited about him. I think that it’s unfair to put those expectations on him and he just has to continue work and get better. He has a chance to be outstanding.”

GBK had an opportunity to chat with the Wide Receiver after Tuesday’s practice. Let’s hear what Alston had to say.
