It was initially a surprise when punter Michael Gillespie de-committed earlier this month, especially as the Army coaching staff spent overtime in their recruiting efforts to get the right kickers and punters on board for the 2017 recruiting class.

“It was a personal decision,” Gillespie told GoBlackKnights.com in a conversation that took place last week. “That's all I want to say on the topic. No negative feelings towards Army. They were disappointed as any coach at any program would be, but I did what I felt is best for me. I recognize the great opportunity. Just that it wasn't for me. Since that conversation, Gillespie announced that he would be attending Monmouth University.
