Viti earned four varsity letters and in addition to his role as team captain, he also served as a Regimental Commander during his senior year.
"We are very excited to have Mike back with the program," said Monken. "He is a tremendous ambassador for Army West Point football. His experience as a cadet, as a football player, as a soldier and as a leader will be very beneficial in this role."
A powerful blocker, Viti helped open holes for a talented rushing attack. He carried the ball 91 times over his four-year career for 321 yards and three scores. He also caught 30 passes for 198 yards.
Following graduation, Viti served a deployment in Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
After retiring from the military as a captain, Viti embarked on Mike's Hike For Heroes, a cross country trek where he walked one kilometer for every service member killed in action in the global war on terror. He concluded the walk covering 7,100 kilometers or 4,400 miles beginning in Washington and wrapping up at the Army-Navy Game presented by USAA in Baltimore, Md.
In his role at Army West Point, Viti will work with potential football players as well as past members of the program.
"I'm excited to be back," said Viti. "As I explored my options for what was next in my career, I knew I wanted to help others and what better way than in Army football, something that means so much to me. My experiences as a football player helped me grow as a person and connected me with life-long friends. The bond Army football players share is like nothing else in the country. Coach Monken is a tremendous person and football coach. His passion, determination and desire to succeed is what drew me back. I can't wait to meet the rest of the staff and do my part to help Army football."
