Under Army Head Coach Jeff Monken, although most would identify the Black Knights’ brand of football with the triple-option offense, and they might be slight correct … we get that. However and perhaps one overlook portion of Army football that might fall under the radar is their defensive prowess.

During the Monken Era, he had the opportunity to have his defense led by two outstanding defensive coordinators.

It started off with Jay Bateman, and after his departure to take on a similar role with the North Carolina Tar Heels, Monken brought in Nate Woody and the ‘D’ has not missed a beat.

One of the common denominators during this period has been the play of the linebackers.

Actually, when it comes to Army football, probably one of the few programs that still calls it a linebacker because ultimately it is tied into the Black Knights’ gap fits about 50% of the time. It's become an extra safety or corner body type though.

In today's world, every position on defense is easier to attack due to increased technology and support personnel/analysts.

GoBlackKnights.com decided to point out who we believe have been the Top 10 Inside/Outside Linebackers for the Black Knights (alphabetical order).
