Not a subscriber to GBK? There’s no better time than now, as the Black Knights have kicked-off of their 2017 Army football season with a 4-2 start as Army now takes on the Rice Owls.
Since late spring/early summer, two-way player Evan Towsend-Henry has been a Army Black Knights’ lean, but he has been taking his time through the recruiting process.
But yesterday via Twitter, the 6-foot-1, 235 pounder from Stamford (CT) made his commitment official and public, but first stop was with the Army coaching staff.
“I notified Coach [John] Loose yesterday a little before I tweeted,” explained Townsend, who has tremendous upside.
“I asked him if I could call and I told him and he said that he was fired up and welcomed me to the brotherhood. He said that I made a great decision and that they are excited to have me.”
Unlike many of this year’s commitments, Townsend-Henry, although somewhat of a local product, he has not been on campus during the Black Knights’ 2017 football, but has followed his future team’s season.
“No I haven’t because I also play on Saturdays’ and I don’t think I will be able to make a game this year,” he said, as he went on to discuss what lead him to make his decision to play at Army West Point.
“I would say the opportunity to be able to serve my country and get the best education in America is something that was hard to pass up,” he explained. “The coaching staff is great and they are welcoming.”
TWO-WAY THREAT
When we initially reported on Townsend-Henry’s recruiting, for the most part he was being targeted on the defensive side of the ball, but he told GoBlackKnights.com, that the plans have slightly changed.
“Coach Loose has said that they would like me at fullback,” shared Townsend-Henry.
“At first he said I could choose, but he said they like me at fullback. I have been following them and they seem like such a great family and are strong as a team and it makes me very excited about my decision especially that video of Coach Monken makes me really excited.”
Stay tuned as GoBlackKnights.com will have the breakdown of Townsend-Henry’s commitment and the impact his pledge will have on this 2018 recruiting class, so keep it right here as we have you covered with all the latest.
